This year’s release looks a little different but the outcome is the same. This holiday season’s limited-edition whiskey blend, Bad Santa Rye, is a delicious blend of Rye Whiskies finished in a spiced rum barrel. Our spiced rum barrels come from our friends at Lugo Craft Distillery in Lakeland, Florida.
Just like previous releases, we start with a delicious blend of rye whiskey that we think will take on the flavors of the Spiced Rum Cask well. This year we landed on Rye whiskey from Kentucky, New York, Pennsylvania, and of course Florida. The oak used by Lugo, to age his spiced rum, was a custom Independent Stave Company sweet heavy toasted Char # 1 American oak barrel, instead of the usual char #4 barrel used in previous years. This release offers a bit more subtlety and balance allowing the whiskies to shine while still offering delicious holiday spice and the sweetness and toasted oak.
