The Brazilian Amazon is a maze where even seasoned travelers can lose their way. A branch snaps behind you. It's not a jaguar. A foul stench announces something far more terrifying, the legendary Mapinguari. In tribute to this elusive beast, we finished straight bourbon whiskey with Brazilian amburana wood, whose warm, sweet aroma offers a striking contrast to the creature that inspired it.
A Cryptid is a creature of lore and superstition like Bigfoot or the Loch Ness Monster. We have recognized 4 of these mythical beasts with one from the U.S., one from Japan, one from France, and one from Brazil showcasing indigenous woods from each region. Each label illustrates the elusive cryptid showcasing artwork from Orlando’s own Fiorel Art. These are our lab experiments that turned out great so we thought it would be fun to release these to the public in small offerings as an example of how a single stave expression can influence a whiskey.

Amburana (pronounced OM – BOO – RA – NA) is a rare type of wood that only grows in South America, predominately in Brazil. It is a unique wood where you cannot allow spirits to rest on the wood for too long because off flavors will appear and the whiskey will turn bitter and metallic in tasting. However, if you time it just right, the wood gives off a sweet creamy aroma and flavor of Ceylon cinnamon. We accomplish this through letting the bourbon rest on Amburana for only 24-30 HOURS not days, not weeks, not months… hours!
Fans of Tampa Cigar Week will also be a big fan of this one as we are very subtle in Amburana finishes and do not want to hide the whiskey, but accompany it.
