Standing at the start of a new era for Forward/Slash, we feel like we are not only beginning to create some of our favorite blends, but some of our favorite whiskeys ever. Obviously, we are biased, but this also signifies where we believe the craft whiskey market is heading. The high-quality spirits being produced today by craft distillers across North America are on the threshold of becoming some of the best in the country. The quality of craft whiskey has continued to increase as distilling practices improve and producers spend more time refining their processing and aging.
For this blend, we knew we wanted to use Frey Ranch as the backbone. Being able to work with Coby Frey and his whiskeys has been a goal of ours since we started doing test blends back in 2020. We were able to balance the soft fruit and creamy notes from Frey Ranch with the bold, dusty cherry qualities of Finger Lakes Distilling. From there, the oldest J. Henry stocks we have ever worked with added an earthy, drying balance to the blend, while the Oregon Spirits bourbon brought a candied florality.
The finish of this bourbon is what really stands out. The oily body of the whiskey helps carry its fleeting flavors long after the whiskey has left the palate.
